چکیده

Introduction and aim: Total laryngectomy surgery is performed in patients with large or recurrent laryngeal cancer. Following removal of the larynx, tracheoesophageal (TE) voice is the gold standard for achieving phonation. The mechanisms underlying TE voice are not fully understood, but pharyngoesophageal (PE) segment vibration has been shown to play a key role [1]-[3]. The aim of this study was to systematically explore the mechanics of PE segment vibration during TE phonation.

Estimation of spinal loads using a detailed finite element model of the L4-L5 lumbar segment derived by medical imaging kinematics; a feasibility study

Introduction: Low back pain is the most prevalent orthopedic disorder and the first main cause of poor working functionality in developed as wells as many developing countries. In Absence of noninvasive in vivo measurement approaches, biomechanical models are used to estimate mechanical loads on human joints during physical activities. To estimate joint loads via musculoskelet...

A new proposal for evaluation of the pharyngoesophageal segment and its relation with the narrow-band spectrogram in tracheoesophageal speakers.

PURPOSE The primary purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between pharyngoesophageal segment (PES) configuration and narrow-band spectrogram of tracheoesophageal voices. METHODS This study included 30 total laryngectomees tracheoesophageal speakers. Patients were assessed by videofluoroscopy (VF), during deglutition and voicing, and the vowel /a/ was recorded for spectrographic...

Relation between the dimensions and intraluminal pressure of the pharyngoesophageal segment and tracheoesophageal voice and speech proficiency.

BACKGROUND The objective of the present study was to relate the dimensions and the intraluminal pressure of the pharyngoesophageal segment (PES) to the voice and speech proficiency of total laryngectomees with a tracheoesophageal prosthesis (TEP). METHODS Twenty total laryngectomees with secondary TEP insertion underwent evaluation of voice and speech, manometry, and videofluoroscopy. RESUL...

The role of videofluoroscopy and ultrasound in assessing pharyngoesophageal muscle tone after laryngectomy.

The aim of this study was to compare the respective value of videofluoroscopy and ultrasound for assessment of the tonicity of the neoglottis and determination of the exact neolaryngeal segment of hypertonicity. We examined twelve patients who had developed inadequate tracheoesophageal voice following total laryngectomy and installation of tracheoesophageal prosthesis. We assumed that the cause...
